Dr. Mitchell serves as Professor & Division Chief of Vascular Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health & Science Center and Medical Director for Vascular & Endovascular Surgery at Regional One Health, Elvis Presley Trauma Center. She received her medical degree from the University of Colorado after earning an engineering degree at the Colorado School of Mines. She completed general surgical training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC), Vascular Surgical Fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University, and Interventional Radiology Fellowship at UCHSC. Her academic focus has centered around surgical education, specifically technical and non-technical skills competency assessment. In 2013, she earned a master’s degree in Surgical Education at Imperial College of London with this work serving as the foundation for the Vascular Surgical Milestones. Her work on the APDVS and the American Board of Surgery-Vascular Surgery Board has been instrumental in national vascular surgical curricular reform. She co-edited the “Atlas of Vascular and Endovascular Surgical Techniques” and e-book/app “Vascular Decision Making: Medical, Endovascular, and Surgical”. She enthusiastically supports surgical resident wellness and is a strong advocate for gender, equity, and inclusion in surgery. She serves on the Board for “Physician Just Equity”, a team of experts supporting physicians experiencing bias, discrimination, and harassment. Dr. Mitchell is an artist and world travel enthusiast. She lives in Memphis with her husband Jon, the Producer of an Emmy-nominated out-door adventure show “Hoss off the Grid” focused on fisheries conservation, with their 3 super dogs and super hedgehog.
