Dr Eldrup-Jorgensen is a vascular surgeon who has been in practice at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. He has served as Chief, Division of Vascular Surgery, Director, Vascular Center at Maine Medical Center, and Medical Director of the Vascular Laboratory. He is Professor of Surgery, Tufts University School of Medicine and has served as President of the New England Society of Vascular Surgery. He has performed over 5000 major vascular operations and written more than a hundred scholarly articles published in peer reviewed journals. He has been visiting professor at multiple prestigious academic medical centers. Over the past few years, his academic interest has focused on outcomes analysis, risk stratification and quality improvement. He is the SVS liaison to the ACR Appropriateness criteria. He is the Chief Medical Officer for the Society for Vascular Surgery Patient Safety Organization Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI). VQI is a registry dedicated to improving vascular care using a data driven approach. This registry-based quality improvement effort has a database with over 900,000 procedures that has been used as a resource for multiple quality improvement initiatives and been the basis for >200 peer reviewed publications, many of which have changed clinical practice. VQI has been a source of real world data to assess vascular device performance. His current efforts focus on addressing social disparities in vascular care and preventing amputations. He is the leader of the SVS Foundation Vascular Volunteers In Service To All (VISTA), a project to enhance vascular health care in underserved communities.
