Peter graduated from the University of Melbourne and underwent residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital completing his FRACS in General Surgery (1998). He completed his FRACS in Vascular Surgery (2000). Peter is a Senior Vascular Consultant and Medical Lead in Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He has been the Managing Partner of Adelaide Vascular since 2006.
Peter developed the Adelaide Vascular Trials (AVT) in 2001—an annual examination preparatory course. Peter’s interests in trainee education saw him serve on the RACS Board of Vascular Surgery (2009 to 2018). Peter has convened the Annual Scientific Meeting of the ANZSVS (2008) and the Annual Scientific Congress of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (2017).
His interest in safety and quality sees him on the Medical Advisory Committee of Adelaide Community Health Alliance and is their Clinical Advisor in Vascular Surgery.
Peter chaired the South Australian Committee of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (RACS) between the years of 2012-2014.
In 2018 he was appointed to Co-chair the Vascular Clinical Committee (VCC) of the Commonwealth Taskforce Review of the Medicare Benefits Schedule.
Peter was a member of the Australian Delegation to APEC Business Ethics Forum (Tokyo 2018) and is on the Steering Committee of the Australian Ethical Healthcare Alliance
He has been on the executive of the ANZSVS since 2011, before being elected President in 2020 and in December of 2020, Peter was elected President of the World Federation of Vascular Societies – completing his term of office in 2021
