Lead Technologist
University of Massachusetts Medical School
Worcester, Massachusetts
Mason Ashcraft is the lead vascular lab technologist at UMass Memorial Medical Center, home to one of the nation’s premier centers for complex aortic disease. In addition to hand-on patient care and staff mentorship, Mr. Ashcraft is the chief developer of S.A.F.E. QA, a cutting-edge approach to quality assurance that demonstrably improves the quality and reproducibility of ultrasound exams. As a result, in 2021 the vascular lab at UMass Memorial was granted full reaccreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in 16 of 16 areas based solely on the initial submission packet – a feat almost unheard of in large vascular labs. (This ‘no-hitter’ was even recognized in a shout-out video from Boston Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield.)
Mr. Ashcraft holds registries in all four major disciplines of ultrasound: vascular, adult echocardiography, abdomen, and OB/GYN. He is frequently an invited speaker and serves as the SVU liaison to the SVS-PSO Venous Quality Committee. His wife, Dr. Dejah Judelson, is a vascular surgeon and active member of the SVS with a distinct interest in vascular labs. Together they live in central Massachusetts with their 2-year-old son, Dexton, and newborn daughter, Daphne.
