Dr. Efthymios (Makis) Avgerinos is an Associate Professor of Surgery and has been a faculty of the University of Pittsburgh since 2011. He is certified by the European Board of Vascular Surgery (FEBVS). He completed his residency in the Department of Vascular Surgery, University of Athens, Greece, as well as a clinical fellowship at King’s Hospital, London, UK and at Stadtische Kliniken, Frankfurt, Germany before moving to US. Dr. Avgerinos has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer reviewed publications and chapters on vascular surgery and his work has been widely cited and recognized with international awards. He has extensive outcomes’ research in the fields of peripheral vascular and venous thromboembolic diseases serving as principal or sub- investigator in multiple national trials. He has served on the Executive Councils of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS), European Union of Medical Specialties (UEMS), and International Society for Vascular Surgery (ISVS). He is currently serving in the Clinical Research and Guidelines Committees of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and the Eastern Vascular Society (EVS).
