Chief, Division of Vascular Surgery
Tufts Medical Center
Boston, Massachusetts
I am the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Tufts Medical Center and Associate Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. My research is focused on identifying novel therapies and surgical approaches to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. I have a broad background in both basic science and clinical outcomes research, with specific training and expertise in vascular pathophysiology. My early research experience involved basic science investigations into mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion injury with the goal of using that understanding to attenuate tissue damage by targeting oxidative stress as one of those mechanisms. Upon joining the faculty at Tufts medical center, I resumed my research projects, now with a focus on clinical research. I have been the PI or co-Investigator on several industry clinical trials, initiated multiple collaborations and successfully built a strong vascular surgery research infrastructure as Chief of the division. In the process, I successfully supervised many vascular surgery outcome projects, collaborated with vascular surgery attendings, fellows, residents, medical students and vascular research associates, and produced many peer-reviewed publications. As a result of these previous experiences, I am aware of the importance of frequent communication among project members and of constructing a realistic research plan, timeline, and budget. Most recently, I have initiated a collaboration with vascular biologists to collect vascular tissue from surgical patients and use the tissue and cells from those samples to study mechanisms of vascular disease.
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
