Dr. Matthew Menard attended Harvard Medical School and received his general surgery training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and vascular surgery fellowship training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is currently Co-Director of Endovascular Surgery and the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Fellowship Director at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Menard is a National Principal Investigator of the BEST-CLI Trial, an NIH-sponsored and SVS-endorsed clinical trial investigating the comparative-effectiveness of open surgery and endovascular therapy for critical limb ischemia (CLI). The trial is a randomized, controlled trial examining treatment efficacy, functional outcomes and cost associated with endovascular or open surgical revascularization in patients with CLI. Dr. Menard is the IDE holder and communicating PI of the Clinical Coordinating Center, which is based at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The trial, which involved more than 150 clinical sites in the United States, Canada, Finland, Italy and New Zealand, completed enrollment in October 2019 and is currently in analysis phase.
